THE ORIGINAL IN SMART BATTERY CHARGERS |
|
One of the First, and possibly still the best smart battery chargers (just ask around any of the specialised battery wholesalers across this country for validation) is going to get a whole lot better in 2009. The original TRUEcharge product developed by Statpower is currently available only in a 10, 20 or 40amp model in 12 volts DC Only. The product has been screaming for an update for years now and unfortunately and as normally what happens to older products, other 'prettier' and seemingly more 'smarter' products have come to market in recent times. The market focus of many of these products is still at the lower end of battery charging requirements, such as automotive cars, trailer boats, farm machinery etc. No real product has come to market in the consumer product range dedicated to large amperage, constant cycle, deep cycle batteries (i.e markets such as Caravans, larger boats, camper trailers, motorhomes etc). |
|
Xantrex have totally started from scratch in updating and developing the TRUEcharge2. Some quick details of the product are (and more to follow closer to the imminent release of this product):
- A smarter offering of product for load based charging applications.
- Projected more competitive pricing
-
11 different power & voltage levels vs 3 (Old TC Range)
-
4 x 24Y output SKUs vs. none in old TC range.
- More applications with wider offering and better installation
- Significantly smaller physical size than old TC models
- Field serviceable fan & DC fuse
- Dead battery charging and ability to recover zero volt batteries
-
-20°C to +65°C (0°C to 50°C full output) existing TC only 0°C to 30°C
-
Optional remote available with loads of product information |

PROTECTION FEATURES
Adjustable temperature compensation and independent settings prevent battery damage due to overcharging and undercharging: helping extend the life of expensive batteries. AC to DC isolation and high input voltage protection protects TRUECharge2 from surges and spikes on the AC power line. User replaceable automotive style DC fuse protects TRUECharge2 from reverse polarity on battery or output terminals.
WORLDWIDE INPUT VOLTAGE RANGE
The charger automatically senses the shorepower input voltage for seamless operation no matter where your travels take you
.
WIDE POWER TOLERANCE
A wide AC input voltage range enables proper delivery of a full three-stage charge, even when charging from less than perfect quality shorepower or generator power. Also helps to provide better tolerance to generator fluctuations.
|
EFFICIENT LOW NOISE CHARGING
Truecharge2 uses Power Factor Corrected charging (.95) to effectively use incoming AC shorepower while minimizing electrical interference. With less shorepower required to charge, there is more usable power available to power a microwave, TV and other AC loads. The TrueCharge2 line of battery chargers has the smallest footprint of any comparable charger in its power range on the market. Designed for use worldwide, the TrueCharge2 comes in both 12 and 24-volt models ranging from 10 to 60 amps and features power factor corrected three-stage charging for the most efficient charge of up to three deep cycle batterybanks. With ignition protection, it can be installed in a boat engine room and has the added benefit of being drip-proof for better installation options (IP32).

THE LINK TO YOUR BATTERIES |
|
One of the most favourite products that we sell in our range is the great Xantrex Battery Monitor products. In 2008, the original brand name LINK returns, with two great models. The Link Lite & The Link Pro.
Both are extremely accurate methods of measuring batteries, and operating your battery bank without good metering is like running your car without any gauges. Although possible to do, it's always better to know how much fuel is left in the tank. Defining the amount of energy in a battery is a complex task since battery age, discharge current and many other factors influence the actual battery capacity.
The Link Lite will become the main monitor for basic, but very accurate monitoring systems such as caravans, boats and 4wds.
Designed as a cut down version of the feature packed Link Pro (or current XBM model), the Lite will selectively show voltage, charge and discharge current, consumed amphours and remaining battery capacity.
With a clear backlit LCD and an easy to use interface, all parameters can be recalled at the press of a button. The Lite also allows for voltage monitoring of a second battery bank. For instant state of charge information, a bar graph display is visible. |
So how does the Lite compare to the PRO, the Lite is a more basic instrument, while the PRO is designed for serious users of their battery banks allowing for advanced programming of the alarm output, higher voltage readings for EV and solar applications, plus easy to recall historical data stored in an internal memory. Both models come with a 2 year warranty, and use the standard 52mm hole cut out with quick fit bezel.

NOTE TO ALL BATTERY MONITOR INSTALLERS |
|
The latest supply of Xantrex battery monitors across the entire range now use the latest currents hunt design. These look very different from the original shunts used in the battery monitors, and we have had a number of phone calls from installers asking about them. Rest assured that these shunts will perform exactly the same as the previous models, and are identical in many ways. They are smaller, but now are:
-
Specifically calibrated to the battery monitors
-
Have easy to follow labels for where each wire goes to
-
Lower overall height
-
Longer connection bolts
-
They are the same current and millivolt ratings as the larger design shunts. |
| WHAT MAKES A GREAT BATTERY MONITOR |
|
There are a number of battery monitors on the market today, but at ATL we have been able to gain great market share with the current XBM model for this simple reason. Nearly all of the other battery monitors on the market loose their calibration with alternator charging (i.e in boats where engines are not run for a long period of time), and the meter does not recognise correctly the incoming charge cuffenr. Technically this is called Peukerts Exponent, but in basic words, the meter is not using the incoming charge current to accurately recalculate the battery state of charge.
This becomes evident after a number of discharge / recharge cycles, and as the company supplying the battery chargers to many of these customers, there is nothing more frustrating to be told the battery charger is not working. How have they determined this - because the battery monitor that they are using says the batteries are still flat. The Xantrex XBM, Lite & PRO models DOES NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE. Any charge is shown accurately. |
| WHAT CAN BE DISPLAYED |
|
|
State of Charge
Shows the exact state of charge for your batteries in a percentage format |
Volts
This is a sample reading to show the battery voltage reading, either under load or charge |
Amps
The amps setting is easy to use and excellent for minimising non esential DC loads. |
Amp Hours
Shows the accumulated amp-hours consumed from the battery over a set period of time. |
Time Remaining
Uses smart software to calculate the time remaining at average loads.
|
Bar Graph. A simply, easy to read indicator bar showing battery status just like a fuel gauge. Alarm Outputs. Set a buzzer, send a signal to start your generator, or just let an indicating source tell you that it is time to either turn some loads off, or start recharging your batteries.
